Funny! Kind of like Dave Barry. I will remember: pick a side, ignore the facts, and fight!✊

This was tried in the USA, in 1974. It lasted only a short time, cited as a cause by some was millions of mothers calling govt. offices saying ‘my child is going to school in the dark!’. Big Farm is nothing compared to Big Mama. Do not mess.

Thanks, that was kind of what I was shooting for.

Yes, an article on that fact is what started me down this road. The headline didn't say when it was last tried and I expected it to be a long time ago.

I don't care, just pick ONE and stick to it!

DST has always been an assumed good. Saves energy, right? Er,.... no. When someone finally did a study on that, turns out being on DST actually uses about 1% more, because the energy saved by having more light in the evening is more than compensated by the extra used when everyone has to get ready for work in the dark.

I'd prefer not to change time but honestly find the time change to be a minor annoyance at most.

We don't have more important things to worry about?

Reziac's avatar

We do, but that doesn't mean we should neglect the dumb little annoyances.

I mean, sure? I don't get *that* worked up over it, but *you* brought the topic up... ;)

Gotta write about something. ;)

Absolutely not……

This is my position as well. I have a friend who has strong feelings about which one gets picked for semi-autistic reasons of semiotics, and a feeling that the government should not lie to everyone by claiming that it is 1300 when the sun is directly overhead, but fortunately this is an autism bugaboo that does not capture me. I mean, I agree with his reasoning, but ultimately, I just want it to fucking *stop*. And I care way more about *that* than the number on the clock associated with the position of the sun. I spend "noon" indoors *anyway*, most days.

Yep. Everyone who runs by the sun will adjust their working hours same as they always did anyway, some businesses will become 8 to 5 instead of 9 to 6, and life goes on as before. But just bloody PICK ONE, and stop disrupting everyone's schedule twice a year.

I've always had a sun-scheduled job, so what the clock says is irrelevant. Even so there's all those little disruptions that cascade from those who run by the clock.

Yeah, I'd rather it was the original clock, but if the price for not having the clock change twice a year is noon-by-the-sun is an hour off, I DON'T CARE!

Besides, neither does the Earth, since noon wanders around under its own power anyway.

Ok. I actually own a pair of lederhosen… the real leather ones. I wore them once in 1968 to a Halloween party. Wonder why I still have them…….maybe I should wear them one last time to celebrate the end OF DST.

No judgement. Ok, maybe a little.

I love DST. And I hate the dark winter. We had two old Scotch ladies in my neighborhood with bowed legs from rickets. They grew up in a Glasgow slum and never saw the sun. They were in their 80s during the 1960s , so a long time ago.

Hoist The Black Flag's avatar

I don't spend a lot of time worrying about rickets. As a redhead I don't hate the sun, but we're not on the best of terms.

Wonder how they are today….
